Foundayo: The Game-Changing New Weight Loss Pill in Cardiff
If you have been looking for an effective, convenient way to manage your weight without injections or strict fasting routines, there is groundbreaking news. On 10 August 2026, the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) officially approved Foundayo (orforglipron). This landmark decision makes the UK the first country in Europe to license this revolutionary once-daily tablet for weight management and type 2 diabetes.
If you are looking for a reliable weight loss pill in Cardiff, Foundayo could be the breakthrough you’ve been waiting for. Here is everything you need to know about how it works, how it differs from existing treatments, and who is eligible.
What is Foundayo (Orforglipron)?
Manufactured by Eli Lilly (the same company behind the popular Mounjaro injection), Foundayo contains the active ingredient orforglipron. It belongs to a class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists.
GLP-1 is a natural hormone released by your gut after you eat. Foundayo mimics this hormone to act on the areas of the brain that regulate appetite. It helps you feel fuller for longer, drastically reduces hunger, and curbs food cravings, making it easier to stick to a reduced-calorie diet. For patients living with type 2 diabetes, it also helps to regulate and lower high blood sugar levels.
Why is Foundayo a Game-Changer?
Until now, GLP-1 weight loss treatments in the UK either required a weekly injection or, in the case of oral semaglutide (the Wegovy pill), came with strict rules.
Foundayo changes all of this.
Unlike older oral GLP-1 medications that must be taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with a specific amount of water, Foundayo can be taken at any time of day, with or without food, and with no water restrictions. For busy professionals, shift workers, and anyone with an unpredictable morning routine, it is arguably the most convenient weight loss pill Cardiff residents can currently access.
How Effective is it for Weight Loss?
The MHRA approval was based on the comprehensive ATTAIN clinical trials. In the ATTAIN-1 trial, which studied adults without type 2 diabetes, the results were highly impressive. Over 72 weeks of treatment at the highest dose:
Participants lost an average of 11.2% to 12.4% of their total body weight.
More than half (54.6%) of participants lost at least 10% of their body weight.
Participants also saw significant improvements in their waist circumference, cholesterol, and blood pressure.
How does it compare to other Weight Loss options?
Foundayo (orforglipron) is the next-generation of oral-GLP medications. Strictly in weight loss terms, it is less effective than injectable mounjaro, injectable wegovy and oral wegovy. But it is undoubtedly the most convenient and affordable GLP-1 class medication, licenced for weight loss, on the market at the moment. Over 72 weeks of treatment at the highest dose, Foundayo patients lost on average 11-12% body weight, Mounjaro patients lost on average 21-22% body weight, injectable wegovy patients lost 14-16% body weight and oral wegovy patients lost 13-14% body weight.
Who is Eligible for Foundayo?
Foundayo is a prescription-only medication designed to be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. You may be eligible for a private prescription at our pharmacy if you are an adult with:
A Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or above (living with obesity).
A BMI of between 27 and 30 (living with overweight) and at least one weight-related health condition, such as prediabetes, high blood pressure, obstructive sleep apnoea, or high cholesterol.
Dosing: How Do You Take It?
According to the manufacturer’s Patient Information Leaflet (PIL), treatment begins with a very low dose to allow your body to get used to the medication.
Starting Dose: 0.8 mg once daily.
Titration Schedule: Over several months, your pharmacist or doctor will gradually step up your dose to 2.5 mg, 5.5 mg, 9 mg, 14.5 mg, and finally a maximum maintenance dose of 17.2 mg.
You will stay on each dose for at least one month (30 days) before moving up.
Remember, the tablet must be swallowed whole—you should not break, crush, or chew it.
Safety Profile and Side Effects
As with all medications, Foundayo can cause side effects, though not everyone gets them. Based on the MHRA guidelines and the PIL, here is what you need to know:
Common Side Effects: The most frequently reported side effects are gastrointestinal. These include nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion, vomiting, and abdominal pain. These symptoms usually occur when increasing the dose and tend to settle over time.
Hydration is Key: Because of the potential for vomiting or diarrhoea, there is a risk of dehydration. It is vital to drink plenty of fluids while taking Foundayo to protect your kidney function.
Who Should NOT Take Foundayo: You should not take this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, or if you have severe gastrointestinal disease. It is also contraindicated for individuals with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma.
